The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued an update regarding the additional duties on energy and energy resources imported from Canada. Additional guidance is provided around the energy products subject to a 10% additional duty that do not qualify under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The full list of products and additional information can be found in CSMS #64472173 and #64514918. Importers may request a CBP classification ruling for clarification on specific products.
Additional updates on retaliatory actions include:
- China has stopped importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. for more than a month now, following a series of tariff impositions that started in February.
- The EU is delaying retaliatory tariffs from 10-50% on products including steel, aluminum and bourbon to April.
Tariff changes are happening frequently, creating uncertainty in the global trade landscape, but we are here to support our customers and help navigate these shifts with tailored import/export strategies. Please reach out to your Mallory Alexander representative with any additional questions.
