Tariffs

The new administration has confirmed that 25% tariffs on most Canadian & Mexican imports will take effect on March 4, following a one-month delay for both countries to address border security concerns. Details are outlined below and are subject to change.
How will this impact trade?
  • States with the highest trade exposure to Canada, Mexico & China include Montana (94%), New Mexico (77%), & Vermont (75%)
  • Top affected imports: oil, auto parts, electronics, & medical devices
  • Retaliatory tariffs could disrupt state economies reliant on exports to these countries
