US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland were in Mexico on Tuesday for signing of the revised United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made the announcement earlier in the day as all sides were able to come to agreement on major negotiating points including a threshold of enforcement for Workers rights – strengthened labor standards; the environment with enhanced verification mechanism; and prescription drug issues which preserves Congress’ ability to change law to address crisis we face in terms of high prescription drug prices.
While the agreement has been endorsed, Mexico has to ratify the USMCA and Canada needs to conclude ratification process.  The United States will share need to text of the agreement so the people of the caucus have an opportunity to review text before bringing to floor for a vote. The U.S is expected to vote on new agreement next week.
