U.S.–Japan Trade Deal Implementation
An executive order was signed outlining the framework of the trade agreement between the U.S. and Japan.
Key highlights include:
- Baseline IEEPA Reciprocal Tariff
- The U.S. will impose a 15% tariff on nearly all Japanese imports.
- Products with existing tariffs at or above 15% will not see additional increases.
- Effective retroactively for goods entered on or after August 7, 2025.
- Sector-Specific Tariffs
- Aerospace products (excluding unmanned aircraft) will have previous tariffs removed.
- Automobiles and auto parts will be subject to a minimum 15% tariff but not higher.
- Exemptions for natural resources unavailable in the U.S., generic pharmaceuticals, and related ingredients or precursors.
