U.S.–Japan Trade Deal Implementation

An executive order was signed outlining the framework of the trade agreement between the U.S. and Japan.

Key highlights include:

  • Baseline IEEPA Reciprocal Tariff
    • The U.S. will impose a 15% tariff on nearly all Japanese imports.
    • Products with existing tariffs at or above 15% will not see additional increases.
    • Effective retroactively for goods entered on or after August 7, 2025.
  • Sector-Specific Tariffs
    • Aerospace products (excluding unmanned aircraft) will have previous tariffs removed.
    • Automobiles and auto parts will be subject to a minimum 15% tariff but not higher.
    • Exemptions for natural resources unavailable in the U.S., generic pharmaceuticals, and related ingredients or precursors.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates once we receive further details from U.S. Customs.
