Tariff Update: Reciprocal Tariffs Starting April 2nd
As of last week, the 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum remain in full effect, with no exemptions planned. These tariffs are part of an ongoing effort to address trade imbalances, but the impact is continuing to reverberate across the global market.
Looking ahead, April 2nd is a pivotal date for the next phase of trade policy. On that day, the U.S. is still set to impose a 25% tariff on automotive imports that was delayed from the beginning of March. Alongside this, reciprocal tariffs are expected to come into play, which could trigger further escalation in trade tensions.
Canada and China are taking swift action in response. Both countries are launching their own investigations into the impact of these tariffs, with additional retaliation measures expected as early as April.
We recommend reviewing your import and export strategies and staying informed about these changes to mitigate potential impacts on your operations. Reach out to M-PACT for assistance with navigating retaliatory tariffs.
